Get involved and demand justice

  1. We demand an inquiry into Batshaw and specifically, their response to missing, runaway, throwaway, and targeted children and youth. Specifically, we demand an investigation into the practices in group homes in Montreal between 2000 - 2023 surrounding the treatment of Black and Indigenous runaways. Flood the line of the Protecteur du Citoyenne, 1 800 463-5070. Here is a potential script: “Hello, I am a concerned citizen contacting you regarding Batshaw’s failure to intervene in situations of runaway Black and Indigenous youth between 2000 - 2023. During this time, it was well known that there was a serial predator targeting vulnerable youth in care, especially Black and Indigenous youth. Batshaw failed to protect these youth and failed to intervene when they went missing. I demand that you investigate this situation further. Thank you.”

  2. We demand an investigation into the conduct of the Montreal Police (SPVM) surrounding the situation in Cabot Square between 2010 - 2023 and the failure to intervene when there was a known serial predator targeting vulnerable women and children. Contact the Quebec Ministry of Justice to demand an inquiry into the conduct of the SPVM concerning their handling of this situations. You can call: 1 866 536-5140 option 3 or email: informations@justice.gouv.qc.ca. Here is a potential script: “Good afternoon. The SPVM failed to protect vulnerable people and I demand an inquiry into this situation. Additionally, the perpetrator is set to be released in March 2026. I demand that the Ministry of Justice enact every possible power to prevent this from happening. Thank you.”

  4. We demand that the Office of the Coroner in Quebec changes its practices surrounding investigations into the deaths of vulnerable Indigenous women. Given the high rates of victimization of unhoused Indigenous women and women involved in the sex trade, we demand that each time the Office of the Coroner is presented with the death of a homeless Indigenous women or sex worker, it is treated as if foul play was involved until proven otherwise. Call the Coroner’s Office to demand these changes at 1-800-267-6637. Here is a potential script: “Hello, I am contacting you regarding your office’s mishandling of the deaths of Cynthia Kudjick, Nunia Grey, Siasi Tulugak, Sharon Baron, Talia Nauya, and Maryann Papatsie.. Your office failed to look at the broader context of violence these women were living in and the pattern of similar deaths that were occurring in Montreal at the time and labeled their deaths as suicide prematurely. We demand that moving forward, your office changes how it handles the deaths of unhoused Indigenous women. We demand that each time a case of an unhoused Indigenous woman arrives at your office, that it is treated as if foul play is suspected until proven otherwise. Thank you.”

  5. We demand that the Minister of Social Services investigates the failure of community organizations in Montreal and around Cabot Square. Specifically, to understand how these vulnerable women were able to fall in between the cracks. We also demand that the province puts in place some form of oversight measures into shelters and how clients are treated at these shelters. Contact Social Services Minister Lionel Carmen at 450-463-3772 or by email via ministre.responsable@msss.gouv.qc.ca, lionel.Carmant.TAIL@assnat.qc.ca. Here is a potential script “Hello, I am contacting you regarding the failure of community organizations around Cabot Square in Montreal to adequately intervene in situations where there was a serial predator targeting vulnerable women, children, and sex workers, most of whom were Indigenous. The province has a duty to protect the most vulnerable citizens who access services from community organizations. We demand that the province create some form of oversight and accountability measure for community organizations throughout Quebec. Thank you.”

  6. We demand that the Protecteur du Citoyenne, 1 800 463-5070, conducts an investigation into CAVAC, The Montreal Sexual Assault Centre, and SOS Violence Conjugale on their practices surrounding vulnerable and intimated victims and witnesses. Here is a suggested message: “Hello. I demand that you investigate this situation further and ensure these victim services organizations put in place strong measures to protect vulnerable and intimidated victims and witnesses”.
